Abstract

Endobronchial valve implantation in patients with severe pulmonary emphysema aims to alleviate disease-related symptoms, prevent deterioration of lung function and improve quality of life.

The 4th update is based on the results of the Cochrane Review "Bronchoscopic lung volume reduction procedure for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" (2017): A total of 5 RCTs were evaluated in meta-analyses (703 patients).

The available evidence suggests that the investigated intervention "endobronchial valve implantation in selected patients with severe pulmonary emphysema" is more effective but less safe than drug therapy.
