Abstract

The transcatheter mitral valve-in-valve implantation (TMViVI) is a technology primarily used in elderly people for replacement of failing mitral valves. We reviewed the current evidence on the efficacy and safety of TMViVI compared to the standard surgical therapy, or no intervention.

No controlled trials were identified within the context of the systematic literature search and hand search. Against the background of the defined inclusion criteria, there is no evidence available to answer the research question. Currently, the inclusion into the Austrian hospital benefit catalogue is not recommended. A re-evaluation is proposed for 2017.
